And it means that any reader who subscribes to Kindle Unlimited also got it free. You will not earn page reads from the KU subscribers who got a free copy, even if they don't start reading until after the Free days are over.

This is why the free promos are worthless in my opinion, unless you have a series published and offer the first one free to hook readers into wanting your follow-on books for which they will pay either buying outright or via the KU reads.

There's no time restraint to reading a "free" book downloaded via KU. As soon as reading begins, page reads can be counted. And of course, nothing for the books actually downloaded free. If I see a book by someone I know "free", and it's in KU, I borrow it so the author gets some money.

Since free rankings don't translate over to the paid listings, I'd rather raise their ranking from the borrow and get them some page reads. Of course you're not getting paid for pages read. You're giving away your book for free.

None of my last 14 novels garnered free downloads in the first 5 days of their promotions even though in my own opinion several of those books were among the very best I've written. Again, your results are excellent. Good luck with paid sales.

I have had my experience with free downloads in the same amount too, sorry, but don't forget the "Hunters and Gatherers" those who download almost everything that comes for free for a later reading that's never going to happen.
